What if the stair treads are the link between the upstairs and downstairs interior ribbons?
They could be the same wood as the ribbons, and similarly link into the dining room screen on the first floor, then become the wood floor upstairs which wraps up to become the nook wall. This way, the directionality of the woods can nicely transition to become perpendicular as they are now, and make more sense (the dining room nook wraps towards the south and the upstairs nook wood wraps towards the east).
