Landscape!

http://www.paulraffstudio.com/index.php - Select "Cascade House" for images and description : nice use of creating a landscaped front yard while remaining retained (we could imply a "yard" with a subtle border like this)

http://nzwood.co.nz/industry-news/timber-design-awards-2009-entrants/owhanake-bay-house/ -Grasses imply directionality along side of house, drawing your eye towards along the side of the house with a view. Pebbles lead up to the front porch, creating a transition between lawn and house.
http://batesmasi.com/batesMasiHome/batesmasihome.html - Select "Re-Cover" for images and description, then select "east elevation" : use of shrubs to create a screen of privacy along that edge of the house is something we could try in areas such as the East porch of the house, where the use is more private.
http://www.momoy.com/2009/01/11/modern-zero-energy-home-for-green-living/#more-3906 - Lush vegetation creeps up into the footprint of the house, we could also do something like this, where trough like walls come out of the deck to create an edge and transition into the landscape.
